It is not known where Alexander was born, although his parents were both buried at Winton.
He married Mary Mason (born at Invercargill in 1869) in 1894 at Wellington.
They had four sons.
Alexander was a labourer all his life, starting in Petone, moving to Winton, then Pahiatua and finally Levin by 1905.
They owned two properties in Cambridge St, Levin. These would now be 165 & 167 Cambridge St.
Alexander signed the "Yes" petition in the 1905 Levin township petition.
