Alexander was born at Invercargill.
He married Mary Wintersgill (born at Foxton in 1878) at Levin in 1903.
They had 4 daughters & one son. Two (twins) were born at Shannon, the rest were all born in Levin.
Their son, Leslie, & one son-in-law, Albert Connelly, served in WW2. Leslie was also a POW.
Alexander was a butcher by trade. He was in Levin from 1903 through to 1911, then at Feilding, Rongotea & finally Palmerston Nth.
The McKay family were on the unofficial census in 1905 for the Levin township petition.
