Alfred was born at Karori, Wellington.
He married Emma Baker (born at Wellington in 1876) in 1897.
They had to sons & two daughters, the youngest being born in Levin.
Alfred started his working life as a harnessmaker in Wellington & then a bootmaker.
By 1911 he is n Levin as a saddler. His business was in Oxford St, Levin next to the Post Office. The business included saddlery, harness & footwear.
By 1928 he is shown as a bootmaker living in Durham St, Levin.
His widow Emma continued to live at Durham St.
