Alfred was born at Warwickshire in England.
He married (1st), Annie Watson (born in 1864) at Kaiapoi in 1890.
They had 2 sons. One of the sons Bernard married 4 times and also enlisted for WW1.
She died aged 36 so he married a 2nd time to her half sister, Ellen Barton (born in 1863) in 1900.
They had one daughter.
Alfred was a horse trainer at Palmerston Nth from about 1897. He was also in Levin from at least 1905 to 1910. He then moved back to Palmerston Nth. he ended up in Taranaki as a labourer.
He was on the 1905 unofficial Levin borough petition census as a trainer with 8 people & 5 buildings.
