He married Amy Raymond (born 1869) at Pleasant Point in 1891.
They had 5 sone & 3 daughters & one miscarried baby. Two of the daughters died in infancy.
Alfred started out as a labourer then became a watchmaker, working at Temuka & Foxton. Around 1905 he was a cycle agent in levin until around 1914 when he moved to Wanganui & then Palmerston Nth.
In 1907 his shop in Oxford St was burnt down along with other shops.
In 1916, as a salesman at Palmerston Nth, he was made Bankrupt.
