Arthur was born at Glasgow, Scotland.
He arrived in NZ with his parents & siblings in 1880. One sibling, Herbert, is also profiled.
He married Emma Naylor (born at Bluff in 1884) at Picton in 1906.
They had 3 daughters & 2 sons. All were born in Levin.
One son, George, became an internationally recognised war & sports photographer. He is recognised in Levin's "Walk of Fame".
Arthur started working life as a warehouseman in Wellington. He then moved to Masterton as a piano tuner & importer. He was in Levin as a farmer before moving to Nelson & eventually Auckland as a piano tuner.
