Charles was born at Tutbury, Staffordshire, England.
He married Mary Smith (born at Longton, Staffordshire, England in 1838) at Burton on Trent, Staffordshire, England in 1856.
They emigrated to NZ settling in the Wairarapa where they had 7 daughters & 3 sons. Two children died very young and one at age 20 from Typhoid.
Charles was a farmer at Greytown and Taratahi from around 1883 until 1895.
