Charles was born at Timaru.
He married Violet Brown (born at Foxton in 1883) in 1904.
They had two daughters & one son. One daughter died in her teens. The other two had different surnames; Redfern-Hardisty.
Charles was a farmer at Kihi Kihi and then a hotel keeper in Palmerston Nth. Around 1922 he became a farmer at Weraroa. He moved to Auckland as a fruiterer around 1928.
Violet became the proprietress of the Taieri Tea Rooms upstairs in the "Haswell Building" in Oxford St. She took over from the original owner Helen McKegg. She would have finished when the family moved to Auckland.
