It is not known where Charles was born.
He married Margaret Berryman(born at Cornwall, England in 1860) at Blenheim in 1886.
They had one daughter whose 1st marriage was into the local Retter family.
The family moved to Levin around 1892 where Charles was employed as a millhand. He purchased a 10 acre block in 1892 and eventually went farming around 1925. The block had Winchester St as one of it's boundaries.
Both Charles & Margaret & their 1st son-in-law are buried in Levin.
