Edward was born in Wrexham, Wales.
He married Gladys Hughes (born in Levin) in 1920.
They had three sons & one daughter, all born in Levin. The eldest, Henry served in NZASC in WW2.
Edward first turned up in the Electoral Rolls in 1911 as a fitter in Palmerston Nth. He then came to Levin in 1915 as a dairy engineer, trading as G M Allmand (his wife's initials). This company became bankrupt in 1931. He then became a salesman, living at Te Horo until he retired around 1957.
