Ernest was born at Middlesex in England.
He married Harriet Purcell (born at Masterton in 1879) in 1896.
They had 3 daughters. She died at age 22 just 18 months after the 3rd daughter was born.
He then married Kate Whyte (born at Foxton in 1878) in 1904.
They had 2 sons, one of which (Wallace (Jock) was killed at Arezzo during WW2.
Ernest was a tailor at Dannevirke, moving to Levin to farm around 1905. He then moved to Waipawa & then Hastings as an auctioneer.
Kate his 2nd wife & his son & daughter-in-law are all buried in Levin. Son Wallace is commemorated on their gravestones.
