George Dacre HAMILTON

George was born at Castle Blayney, Ireland.

He travelled via Sth Africa and landed in NZ in 1907.

He married Emily Hammond (born at Auckland in 1888) in 1913.

They had one son who died in infancy.

In October 1915, he was a Captain in the Wellington Mounted Rifles. In March 1916 he was Quartermaster for the (Maori) Pioneer Battalion. In September 1917 he was a Major in the Royal Engineers.

When he returned to NZ after WW1 he continued his service as a civil servant for the Treasury Dept & Public Trust Office.

In 1922 he came to Levin to set up an accounting business. He served with distinction on several Boards & Societies. He was also involved with many clubs & Associations in Levin.

He was the 3rd RSA Levin President from 1923 - 1938.
