George Henry ASTRIDGE

George was born in Havant, Hampshire, England.

He came to NZ with his parents & brother Albon arriving in August 1974 on the brig "Conflict".

He married Sarah Marshall (born in Bridgewater, Somerset, England) in Wellington in 1881.

They had nine children.

Two sons served in WW1, William George & Frederick. A son-in-law, Alexander Malcolm served in the Medical Corps.
Frederick was wounded three times. William George was killed in 1917 at Passchendaele, Belgium. A 1st cousin was also killed in WW1.

George Street in Levin is named in William George's honour.

George was a general carrier in Wellington in the 1890's. He moved to Levin in the late 1890's and is described as a settler in the Electoral Rolls. By 1928 he is described as a contractor.
