Herbert was born at Nelson.
He married Emily Bellve (born at Turakina in 1871) At Feilding in 1899.
They had three sons & one daughter.
Herbert, in 1896, was a storeman at Manaia. he then moved to Feilding as a grocer.
He was in Levin as a storekeeper with a shop in Oxford St from at least 1905. By 1928 he is a farmer in Weraroa with a final address of Essex St.
Herbert signed the "Yes" petition in the 1905 Levin township petition.
He celebrated his 100 birthday in Nov 1964, dying only one month later.
