Hugh BLACK (Snr)
Hugh was born in Inverchadan, Argyll, Scotland.
He immigrated to NZ, in 1889, with his widowed mother & siblings.
He married Julia Bower (born in Balclutha) in Lovells Flat, Clutha, in 1899.
They had six children, four boys & two girls.
Two of the sons, John & Hugh (Jnr) served in WW2.
Hugh started as a farmer in Waiwera, then became a dairy factory manager in Awahuri & Okaiawa in the early 1900's. He then became a cheese factory manager in Matatere. By 1919 he was a settler then retired in Eastbourne.
Sons John & Hugh (Jnr) were garage proprietors in Oxford St, Levin. John lived in Bartholomew Rd, & Hugh (Jnr) in Durham St.
