Hugh was born in Greytown.
He married Edna Clark (born at Otaki in 1895) in Levin in 1922.
Edna was a daughter of local pioneer storekeeper (Walter Mace Clark).
They had wo daughters & four sons.
Hugh served in the Mounted Rifle Brigade, 30th reinforcements in WW1.
He started his working life as a Ribber at Mt Bruce in the Wairarapa. By 1928 he was farming at Ohau, until his death.
His widow Edna, moved to live at 2 Lancaster St, Levin.
