Hugh was born in Nelson.
He married Mary Anderson (born at Marton in 1884) at Palmerston Nth in 1909.
They had no children.
After he died Mary moved to Wellington where she met & married Stanley Fairhall. He served in both the Boer War & WW1. They also had no children. They ended up in Sydney, Australia.
Hugh was a hairdresser by trade, starting in Wellington. By 1905 he was in Levin. He signed the "Yes" petition in the 1905 Levin township petition. In 1906 he became one of the 1st Levin Borough Councillors, serving until 1909.
