James Edward (Jim) DEAN

Jim was born At Bradford, West Yorkshire, England.

He emigrated to NZ, arriving in Wellington in Oct 1889.

He married Nellie Barnes (born at Kidderminister, Worcestershire, England in 1866) at Wellington in 1893.

They had 4 girls & two boys, all born in Levin. Two of the girls died at infancy. Both were buried at Tiro Tiro Rd, Levin cemetery.

Jim started as a storekeeper in Levin by 1896. He then went on to establish a cordial making business, living in Devon St Levin. He also made soap from his home address.

By 1928 he is a storekeeper in Wanganui. By 1949 he is retired living at 14 Liverpool St, Levin. However he was buried at Wanganui with his wife who had died some years earlier.

One son, Harry, served in WW1. Two son-in-laws, Walter Banks & Thomas Sunley, served in WW2.

Jim signed the "Yes" petition in the 1905 Levn township petition.
