John Andrew HASWELL
John was born in Napier.
He married Mary Gray (born at Wellington in 1867) at Kaikoura in 1892.
They had two daughters.
A son-in-law John Wales served in both WW1 & WW2, rising to the rank of Brigadier in WW1. He also received the Military Cross
John started out a s storekeeper in Kaikoura, moved to Feilding around 1900 & then Eketahuna by 1905. He went farming in Nelson around 1919 & then moved to Patea as a store manager. He retired to Auckland around 1946.
During the period from 1910 to 1917 he ran a shop in Oxford St Levin, with his brother Albert. The shop was in the name of "Haswell Brothers", also promoted as "The Farmers Exchange".
