John was born at Preston, Lancashire, England.
He married Annie priddle (born at Middlesex in 1855) at Kent in 1876.
They arrived in NZ in 1876.
They had 5 daughters & 4 sons. One girl & 1 boy died in infancy & one girl at 10 years of age.
One son, Walter, served in WW1.
John was a settler at the Horowhenua Village Settlement (HVS) and then a farmer. By 1919 he was a carter.
Nine of the extended family are buried in Levin.
