John ROBERTSON
John was born at Kirkcudbrightshire in Scotland.
He married Alexandra Hamilton Macfarlane (Lexa) (born in SCotland c 1878) at Glasgow in 1901.
They emigrated to NZ in 1902.
Shortly after their daughter was born.
In 1924 he married a second time to Doris James (born at Christchurch in 1910). They also had a daughter.
In the meantime Alexandra also remarried to Robert McAllister who lived in Levin. She continued to live in Levin as a widow. Robert is buried in Levin.
John was a watchmaker by trade and he worked in this trade in Palmerston Nth until he became the M P for the Otaki electorate in 1911 to 1914.
He then returned to Palmerston Nth as a journalist before moving to Christchurch around 1922 as a theatre manager.
Around 1931 he moved to Wellington as a secretary (of a political party) and then became the M P for the Masterton electorate from 1935 to 1943. He then returned to Wellington, still involved in the political party until he died.
