Lindsay was born in Dunedin.
He married Florence Park (born in Dunedin) in Wellington in 1907.
They had no children.
From the Electoral Rolls, Lindsay started work as a bank clerk in Dunedin, by 1900. In 1905 he is at Mt Royal as a station clerk.
By 1911 he is farming in Levin, and then to Wanganui by 1928. In 1946 he is retired moving back to live at 15 Paisley St, Levin in 1957.
