He married Clara Field (born at Saddleworth, Yorkshire, England in 1851) at Greytown in 1870.
Richards's brother Abraham (also profiled) married Clara's sister.
Richard & Clara had six sons & three daughters.
One daughter died at age 10, one son at age 22. One son, George, was killed at Ypres, Belgium during WW1.
Richard started out as a labourer at Feilding around 1885. By 1896 he was farming at Apiti. By 1919 he has retired to live at Kent St, Levin.
