Richard was born in Wellington.
He married Winifred Shaw (born in 1873) at Wellington in 1896.
They had two girls & one boy.
Both son-in-laws, Owen Self & Wilfred Wickham served in WW1.
Richard started his working life as a labourer at Waikawa. By 1896 he is a farmer at Ohau. In 1911 he is a dairy farmer at Tirau and then becomes a stock agent rep in Te Kuiti. By 1919 he is the manager of an auction company at Te Puke.
He has retired to Okere Falls by 1935.
