Robert was born at Taita in Lower Hutt.
He married Zealandia Worth (born in 1858 on board boat "Zealandia" bound to NZ) at Wellington in 1885.
They had four boys & one girl. One of the boys died very young.
One son, Edmund & one son-in-law, George Waite, served in WW1.
In the electoral rolls for 1880 Robert is shown as a settler at Waihinga.
He was then a hotelkeeper at Featherston and then at the Levin Hotel in 1896.
Within 12 months he was a hotelkeeper at Carterton and finally moved to being a settler in Otaki by 1911.
