Samuel was born in Roa, Oslo as Hansen. At some time in NZ the surname got changed to Hanson.
He married Eliza Begg (born in England in 1838) at London in 1855. They travelled to NZ with their children between 1868 & 1870.
They had one daughter & seven sons plus a baby that died in infancy. Four of the sons were born in or around Wellington. Two daughter-in-laws were sisters & two were born on ships bringing their families to NZ.
Samuel was a labourer in Levin in the late 1890's early 1900's.
Son Samuel (Jnr) also worked as a bushman in Levin between 1890 to 1911. He became naturalised in Jul 1899. Another son, Arthur also lived & worked in Levin as a millhand & carter.
