Sir Walter Lawry BULLER
Walter was born at Hokianga where his father was stationed as a missionary.
He married Charlotte (born at Paihia in 1838) at Whangarei in 1862.
They had three sons and one daughter, one of the sons died in infancy.
The family had a country estate at Lake Papaitonga, Ohau.
Walter was a solicitor, however he was also an authority & author on NZ birds.
He served in the Boer war.. He also served in English ranks in WW1, rising to the rank of Brigader General.
His son-in-law, William Madocks, was a Major during the NZ wars and received the NZ Cross.
He was a contemporary and advisor to Major Kemp.
Charlotte died at Wanganui but was buried in Wellington.
Walter was in England when he died. He is buried at Fleet, Hampshire, England. All his family followed him to England.
