Thomas was born at Holborn, Middlesex, England.
He emigrated to NZ, arriving at Lyttelton in 1852.
He married Ann Wood (born at Eastbourne in 1856) at Wainuiomata in 1873.
They four sons & four daughters.
One son, James, served in WW1.
Thomas started out as a freeholder in Wainuiomata around 1875. By 1880 he is farming at Mungaroa.
By 1928 he is farming at Otaki.
