William was born in Northchapel, Sussex, England.
He married Mary Ann Slater (born in Rotherhithe, Surrey, England) in Bethnal Green, England in 1857.
They had the one son (William Jnr) who travelled with them & his family to NZ, on the "Westland" arriving in Nov 1883.
William was a millhand & labourer in Levin from the early 1890's.
Mary signed the "Yes" petition (with an X) in the 1905 Levin township petition.
