William was born at Christchurch.
He married Susannah Taylor (born at Christchurch in 1874) at Christchurch in 1899.
They had two daughters & one son.
One son-in-law, Oswald Hogg, served in the Navy in WW2.
William started as a coachbuilder in Christchurch before moving to Levin by 1900. He owned a business in Levin until around 1920 when he moved to Auckland. His business included motor body-building, spring making, painting & upholstery plus boatbuilding. The first motor launch ever placed on Horowhenua Lake was owned & built by William.
He also signed the 1905 Levin township petition & was included in the unofficial census of 1905.
His son, Frank, opened Empire Garage in Oxford St, before moving to the Coromandel. in 1936.
