The actual date & place of William's birth is not known.
Nor is that of his wife Margarette Scott. They were married in 1901.
They had one daughter. Her husband George Fawcet served in WW1.
Williams started out as a labourer in Makino. From 1905 he was a saddler in Petone, Levin in 1910, then Blenheim in 1911 and from 1914 in the Wakefield area.
He was declared bankrupt in 1908 in Upper Hutt & when asked for a discharge advised he did not have the funds to travel from Weraroa to Upper Hutt.
