William was born in Hartshill, Warwickshire, England.
He married Clara Langley in Foxton in 1893.
They had two sons, one of whom died in infancy.
William was working as a carpenter in Rongotea by 1896. He then switched to farming in Makino by 1905 & Levin by 1911.
By 1914 he was in Woodville as a Captain in the Salvation Army, then in Auckland where he retired.
