William was born in Pahiatua.
He married Gertrude Barnett (born at Woodville in 1889) in 1909.
They had eight children, two of whom were girls. One of these died in infancy.
Two sons, Leslie & Gordon & one son-in-law, Edward Sheehan, served in Ww2. Leslie was killed in Egypt in 1942.
William & Gertrude were divorced in 1945. He went on to marry Leila Wilmer in 1952.
In the 1911 & 1914 electoral rolls William is shown as a labourer living in Devon St, Levin. By 1928 he has moved to Taurmarunui and then Waimarino as a contractor.
After his new marriage he moved to Balclutha as a labourer, retiring there by 1957.
