William was born at Waimea in the Nelson district.
He was born illegitimate as Charles (William) Henry Lechner. He was acknowledged by his father, as being his son, on his return from gold digging in Australia.
His first marriage to Helen Greeks (born t Masterton in 1862) was not recoded as a marriage. We do not know what happened to her.
His 2nd marriage was to Amelia Schwass (born at Waimea in 1864) at Nelson in 1885. She died in 1898.
He then married Catherine Bridle (born c 1847) in 1914.
There was 1 son & 1 daughter with Helen.
There were 2 daughters with Amelia.
There was 1 son with Catherine.
William was a labourer in Foxton, moving to Levin around 1905.
