Yalmar Bernhard (Bernard) BERNTSEN
Yalmar was born in Oslo, Norway.
He married Jeanie Hamilton Telfer (born in Dunedin in 1874) in Wellington in 1893.
They had 10 children, 4 girls, 5 boys & one stillborn.
Two sons served in WW2 with one, Jacob (Jack) killed in the Western Desert in 1941. A son-in-law, John Tyson, served in WW1.
Yalmar was naturalised in 1920.
He was a coachsmith & blacksmith in Lower Hutt in the early 1900's & then Owhanga before becoming a settler in Kawhia by 1914 then a farmer in Hauturu (Kawhia) for the rest of his life.
